God Sized Vision & Prayer
One of the most important questions any Christian can ask is, "if you knew that you could not fail, what would you attempt for the glory of God and the expansion of His kingdom?
That is a "faith" question that reveals more about a person's faith than you would ever imagine. If vision is limited to what you can do, then where is the need for faith?
How much can God do for us?
Ephesians 3:20–21 (ESV) Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
We have a God who spoke and the world came into existence, he breathed and life came to creation. One lifetime ago, the biggest galaxy we could imagine was our own Milky Way Galaxy. Now, if we look at the stars through a straw, we know that there are millions of discovered galaxies in that tiny space of sky. Our God is so much bigger and greater than we can imagine!Our issue is not a matter of what God is capable of doing, but how much, by faith can we imagine?A.W. Tozer declared,
"God is transcendent; his true greatness always will be greater than we have the ability to think, believe, or know.
The size of our faith is directly connected to the size of our comprehension of God. Big God, leads to big faith. Little god, leads to little faith. As JB Philips wrote a book entitled, "Your God is Too Small."Dawson Trotman, the founder of the Navigators Ministry inspires us to think BIG as we pray!
"Do you know why I often ask Christians, 'What's the biggest thing you've asked God for this week?' I remind them that they are going to God, the Father, and the Maker of the universe. The One who holds the world in His hands. What did you ask God for? Did you ask for peanuts, toys, trinkets, or did you ask for continents?
I want to tell you… it's tragic!
The little itsy-bitsy things we ask of our Almighty God. Sure, nothing is too small--but also nothing is too big. Let's learn to ask from our big God some of those big things He talks about."
Robert Logan comments,
It would be quite a revolutionary shift in our thinking, and doubtless in our lives, if we simply were to believe that God was able to do precisely what we ask. Over and over throughout Scripture, we are beseeched to ask of God. James 4:2 assures us, ". . You do not have, because you do not ask God."1
Elisha was surrounded in the town of Dothan and his servant was nervous, crying out to Elisha, "
2 Kings 6:15 (ESV) ...“Alas, my master! What shall we do?”
Elisha's response is timeless,
2 Kings 6:16–17 (ESV) He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
Nothing Begins Without Prayer
How revolutionary would it be for us to believe that God can do exceedingly, abundantly, above and beyond anything we ask or think? As James 4:2 instructs, "you do not have, because you do not ask God."
Won't you start each day on your knees, humbly asking God to do only what he can do, opening your eyes to see what He has in mind for your life and ministry, those things that will last for eternity!
